Microsoft Office Videos

Microsoft UK apparently commissioned Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to do a (spoof) training video with Gervais playing David Brent. The first part runs for 20 minutes and the second for 17 minutes. They've been uploaded to Google Video and the good thing about this service is that you can download them. It's like watching the lost episode of The Office. Microsoft said on Tuesday it was investigating how two in-house training videos appeared on two Web sites. The videos, which popped up on YouTube and Google Video this month, were commissioned by Microsoft in 2004 as "a light-hearted way of getting our staff to think about the values they attach to working at Microsoft," a company spokeswoman said. The British series ended in 2003 with Gervais and co-writer Stephen Merchant saying there would be no further series. The Office is a mock documentary set in a company whose politically incorrect manager, David Brent, believes, wrongly, he is amusing and popular. By Tuesday, the videos had been pulled off the online video-sharing site YouTube. They remained on Google Video and Microsoft declined to say if it had try to have them pulled from that site. "These videos were produced for internal use and were never intended to be viewed by the public," said the spokeswoman said. Blogger beta

Google is testing new Blogger beta through selected member accounts. If you are the lucky one, you will enjoy some new features after switching to Blogger Beta.

One of the noticeable change is that new BlogSpot is using dynamic update. No more re-publishing, say bye-bye to static HTML files. Another new feature, and also the most wanted all time, is labels (or categories). It allows you to label your posts and group them together. Another added feature is the support for RSS 2.0 feed format, other than ATOM.

Google offers hosted communications applications

Google plans to announce on Monday a beta version of Google Apps for Your Domain, which includes Gmail with 2 gigabytes of storage, Google Calendar, Google Talk and Page Creator. The new service is an extension of Gmail for Your Domain, a service that Google launched in beta version in February. It allows organizations to use Gmail applications with their own e-mail address, instead of the "@gmail.com" domain. The Gmail for Your Domain test service has tens of thousands of active domains, hundreds of thousands of users and hundreds of universities registered to use it, said Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager of Google's enterprise business. The Google Apps for Your Domain service will allow organizations to outsource their communications applications to Google and to customize the user interface with their own branding and color scheme. Administrators will have access to an English-language Web-based control panel to do things like manage the user account list and set up aliases and distribution lists. A premium edition with support and additional storage will be available by the end of the year for a fee, Girouard said. He declined to provide more details.
