My New System

Last week I assembled a new system for me. I was thinkg about upgrading my old system since last year. Last month I decided, upgrade. But my confusion was which system i will take, AMD X2 or Intel Dual Core. Then i thought go for AMD 64 FX2 3800. Again I got confused, which RAM? DDR1 or DDR2. DDR2 is a good option but it's price is much more than DDR.

I searchd the net for reviews about AMD and Intel. But I found that Core 2 Duo is a brand-new state-of-the-art processor, whereas the Athlon 64 X2 has been around for a while. In all benchmark Intel scored more than AMD. Bt the cost of Core2 is more than Dual Core or AMD 3800X2. But finallay I decided that go for Core 2 Duo, a vista ready system.

Then my confusion was about Motherboard. I asked my dealer about which mobo is available now. They said they are giving Gigabyte 945GM. But it's integrated GMA is Intel950. Reviews pointed that Windows Vista Aero style is not available if we are using GMA950. Else we must buy a graphics card. But i cant think about graphics card, because my budget was for a medium PC. If i go for Core 2 Duo, i cant think about a Graphics card. So again i worried...I started thinking about AMD with a good mobo and Graphics card. I searchd for a good configuration..but all good configuration points to core 2duo. Finally i decided to go for that, i will buy a graphics card when i willl get money..now adjust with 950GMA. I called my dealer to order my components. But 945mobo was out of stock. I asked them that is any other mobo is available. They said only Intel 965 is available. But it is very expensive. Again i startd searching for a mobo. Atlast I got it, Intel 946. It is a new mobo with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator(GMA) 3000.

So i am ready to order my pc. I told them that i need DDR2 667 MHz. But they said they are not sure which is available, 533 or 667. So i said if 667 is not available give 533MHz DDR2.

I don't need Monitor, DVD Writter, UPS and Spekers because i can take all those from my old system. All those, except speaker are new. I gve my order. They said i will get all those within 2days.

The next day i got a call from my dealer that my order is ready, come and take. But i was in college. In the evening I called my brohter to come to Thiruvalla with money. So we can assemble our new system today itself. He came to thiruvall at 5.30pm and we went to chaganassery. Bought all items and reached home at 9o clock.

I was very happy and started assembling. My mom called me for dinner but i continued my work.

I connected all the parts and started installing Windows Xp.

Yahoo Messenger Worm

There is a very bad worm attack on Yahoo Messenger where it will take control of your messenger and without your knowledge sends some messages with a website links which contains the worm, to your friends list, without your knowledge.

This is a worm that spreads itself by sending links to your contacts in messengers like Yahoo. It disables Registry Editor and Task Manager. It changes the Internet Explorer (IE) home page and also modifies registry such that you cannot change the homepage address.

If your computer is infected with this virus " It will sends the nsl-school.org url to all of your friend list in yahoo messenger using your ID . So with in few hours many of your friends will get infected with it.

Here are simple steps following which you can get the worm removed from your system:

1) Download this http://arunmvishnu.googlepages.com/RepairRegistry.reg file (or you can do it manually)
2) Double click on that downloaded registry file, you will be asked wheather you're sure to add this to registry, click yes.
3) Restart your system.
4) Delete the file svhost32.exe from your Windows folder( If it is present).
5) Delete the file svhost.exe from your Windows folder( If it is present).
6) Lastly, search for: ENET.EXE and delete it if found.


Editing registry manually
------------------------------

1: Close the browser. Log out messenger.
2: Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
3: To enable task manager : (To kill the process we need to enable task manager)
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
4: Now we need to change the default page of IE though regedit.
Start>Run>Regedit
From the below locations in Regedit chage your default home page to http://arunmvishnu.siteburg.com or other.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Just replace the attacker site with http://arunmvishnu.siteburg.com or set it to blank page.
5: Now we need to kill the process from back end. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del
Kill the process svhost32.exe . ( may be more than one process is running.. check properly)
6: Delete svhost32.exe , svhost.exe files from Windows/ & temp/ directories. Or just search for svhost in your comp.. delete those files.
7: Go to regedit search for svhost and delete all the results you get.
Start menu > Run > Regedit >
8: Restart the computer.

Internet Explorer 7 Final Released

Microsoft late Wednesday released the much-anticipated final version of Internet Explorer 7, the first major update to the market-leading Web browser in five years. The company has high hopes for the release, which arrives amid growing competition from Firefox.
IE7 includes a number of new features such as a built-in Phishing Filter and ActiveX controls that require manual activation to keep users protected. Under the hood, Microsoft has rewritten the networking architecture of the browser to stop URL spoofing attacks.
IE7 will also play a key role in bringing Windows into the so-called "Web 2.0" era, in which rich applications can reside on a server but feel as snappy as those on the desktop. The release natively supports asynchronous JavaScript and XML, better known as AJAX, along with including a slew of CSS bug fixes and improvements.
Microsoft has additionally built a new RSS feed platform directly into IE7. Not only will users be able to stay up to date by subscribing to Web sites, but application developers can also hook into the platform and easily make use of RSS APIs.
